What does it mean to surf a single fin? If you’ve never ridden one this is what you can expect. It feels very different to a thruster and presents a new style of surfing that is very enjoyable. You may need to spend some time adjusting from a style of pumping down the line like you normally do on a thruster to trimming more. It can be difficult making your own speed on the wave. It teaches you to take whatever the waves give. You learn to look further down the line and try to milk the wave until it gives up. It feels stable trimming down the line and has incredible hold. It’s fast in a straight line as there is less drag due to the reduction in fins. Remember a normal board is only faster when it’s pumped rapidly from rail to rail. However, in a straight line, those extra fins produce drag.

That’s why we have the Floyd in our line. It’s a huge pleasure to ride when you are ready for the challenge. The single-fin set up of the Floyd combined with an almost flat bottom and a nice vee in the tail make this board lightning fast and loose. The updated rails and rocker line make it a perfect all-rounder. Just fiddle with fin position and type, and you are equally well equipped for small mush or head high point breaks.

If it gets bigger, just add the side bites or put the single to the back for the little bit of extra hold in the wall and you’re all set!
