The All New Fatum Experience

Different surfboards, different mindset...

Aug

We are not in the habit of re-inventing the wheel here at Fatum but if we can make it go round easier, maybe we should?

The tried and tested way a surfer learns about surfboards and which one is correct for them,in what conditions, location or break has been around for eons. You would rent or buy a surfboard and go and try to surf it. Simple, but could it be better? During a ‘lightbulb moment’ over a cup of coffee, we had an idea that is simple, elegant and might be the most useful thing since sliced bread.

The Idea

The Fatum Experience is launching very soon and involves you, a quiver of different Fatum surfboards / fins / places to surf and one of our very own coaches from Fatum.

This was such an awesome idea that it’s been difficult to keep quiet about it. We going to make our full quiver of Fatum Test boards (30 plus) available to you, supply you with a coach who works for Fatum and then we are going to take you to the right place to surf those boards on that day. Simple hey? But that’s not all.

Surfing Fatum Surfboards
Let us explain all about our boards but while surfing them…

This is not Surf Instructing

You can go anywhere to have a ‘group surf lesson’ or a ‘one-to-one lesson’. The Fatum Experience is different. We want to show you the difference in how all types of surfboards ride and how changing the fins or fin configuration will alter your experience. Our coach who will be with you in the water will take you to the best spot to surf those boards you have chosen from the test quiver.

Let’s give you an example of how it might work:

7AM

– Meet Joaquim at Fatum Factory to pick out 3 – 4 different boards you want to try

– Pick out some fins to try with the boards

– Review conditions and discuss places to surf the boards.

– Hit the road in the Fatum Wagon

Explaining Surfboards
We know the best places to surf on any day with the boards, you want to try…

7.30AM

– Surf and try the different boards and fins

9AM

– Back at Fatum Factory for a coffee/beer/coke for de-briefing. Chat about what fins did what and when, which boards worked better and why.

9.30AM

– Take the Fatum board you liked the best and surf it for the rest of the day.

Our aim is for this to be tailored for you and the boards you choose, to give you more insight into the difference between surfboards and which one is right for you at a practical level. It’s not surf coaching, it’s a whole learning experience and discovering new boards and ways to surf a wave.

The Fatum Displacement Hull
Gero is shaping a Displacement Hull for the Fatum Experience.

We Saved the Best until Last

To mark the occasion and for your ultimate pleasure, Gero has made some of the most different classic / wacky and undecided shaped surfboards for you to use as well as the standard Fatum quiver. The idea behind this is giving people the change to try a board that would otherwise be inaccessible other than via an expensive purchase.

These boards will include:

  • An Asymmetric three fin
  • A five fin Bonzer
  • A Displacement Hull Single Fin
  • A Mini Simmons
  • A Performance Ripper

These are all surfboards that either have been part of surfing’s history in the past or surfboard designs that are current, misunderstood or have got lost on the ‘cutting room floor’.

The Fatum Experience represents a tantalizing chance to be able to test these usually inaccessible boards out with explanations and help without making a purchase.

Look out for exact dates, pictures and booking details coming soon…
